Milford Parks & Recreation announces winter programs

Youth basketball is just one of the winter programs offered by Milford Parks & Recreation

Milford Parks and Recreation recently released information on their upcoming winter programs. This winter, they will offer programs for both children and adults.

“Registration is open,” Nan Martino, Program Coordinator, said. “Program decisions are made about a week before the program start date, so help our programs continue by registering early. All programs are all-inclusive and open to everyone, but space is limited.”

Youth Indoor Soccer will have games on Sundays starting January 9 and running through February 20, except for January 16 and February 20. Leagues are available for children under eight, under ten and under 12. There is also an instructional program available for children under six. The cost is $50 per player.

With tryouts starting in December, the Youth Basketball program will have practice on either Wednesday or Thursday and games on Saturday, starting in January and February. Leagues are available for under 10, 12, and 15. Children under seven can register for an instructional program which will be held on Tuesdays. The cost is $60 per player.

“Anyone who is interested in coaching basketball should contact us,” Martino said.

Taekwondo for youth will be held on Wednesdays beginning February 16 and running through March 24. The program is open to children seven and older. Each child will learn basic blocks, strikes and self-defense skills. The cost is $50 per person.

Youth wrestling will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays starting December 14 and running through February 24. The program is for children aged 7 to 13 and the cost is $60 per person with uniforms and tournaments a separate cost.

On December 12, Parks & Recreation will sponsor a Holiday Dance Party from 2 to 4:30 PM.

“Dress in your best and join us for dancing and games,” Martino said. “Light refreshments will be provided. The dance is for children aged 8 to 12 and the cost is $15.” There will also be a Christmas Painting program on Wednesday, December 22, starting at 1 PM. There will be instruction and the event is for children seven and older. The cost is $15.

Milford Bowling Lanes will be the location of Kids Bowling Day on Wednesday, December 29 from 1 to 3 PM. Children 6 to 12 are welcome at a cost of $12 per child. The cost includes two games of bowling, shoe rental and lunch. Children can choose either a slice of pizza or a hot dog and chips with a drink for lunch. On Thursday, December 30, Kids Fun Day will include games, crafts, music and more. Lunch is included and children ages 6 to 10 should dress to go outside. The cost is $20, and the event will run from 10 AM until 2 PM.

Adult basketball open gym will be held on Tuesdays from January 4 through February 22 from 7:30 PM to 9 PM at the Boys and Girls Club. Adults 30 and older are welcome at a cost of $25 per person.

“Come out for Bingo Night on Friday, January 28 at 6 PM,” Martino said. “The cost is $15 and includes five games. You can win free registration, t-shirts, baskets and more.”

Parks and Recreation has also created a Women’s Community Club designed for women who want to meet new people, socialize and have fun. The club meets Fridays starting February 4 through 25 from 6 to 7:30 PM and is open to women 21 and older. The cost is $20 and includes discussions, activities and light refreshments.
