Nemours holds official ribbon cutting for Sussex campus
Although the facility has been seeing patients for several months, Nemours wanted to celebrate the opening of their new location on the Bayhealth Sussex Campus. On April 21, the organization held a virtual ribbon cutting ceremony in order to meet COVID-19 protocols.
“This is the first of a vision we see for this campus,” Terry Murphy, CEO of Bayhealth, said. “We are pleased to celebrate and welcome the Nemours campus to Milford. As you can tell, it is the definition of convenient and accessible for people of Kent and Sussex counties who are seeking health services. Not only will there be primary care offices, but there will also be specialists who focus on the health of children.”
Mark Mumford, who became Chief Executive of Delaware Valley Operations for Nemours in September, commented that this was the first time that he had been able to take a “road trip” due to the continuing COVID pandemic and he was excited to see the new Milford campus.
“What a beautiful day to celebrate a beautiful facility with the beautiful souls who made it happen,” Mumford said. “I am delighted to be able to celebrate the opening of the Nemours building here at the Sussex Campus. Nemours serves more than 30,000 patients in southern Delaware. Many of these patients struggle to get time off of work and to find transportation to Wilmington. We are so proud to bring the first full-service primary and specialty service of its kind to this region.”
The new building which stands across the street from the new Bayhealth Sussex Campus, is over 30,000 square-feet. The first floor is dedicated to Nemours with half of the serving pediatric patients and the other half serving senior patients. The second and third floor will be used by Bayhealth as offices for medical practitioners.
“What an exciting ay this is,” Valerie Biggs, the mother of eight children who are patients at Nemours. “I would like to thank all the people involved in making this a reality and including me in this special day. It is so important to have this quality care close to home and it is long overdue. I have made that long trip more times than I can count to see specialists. Now, there will be no more fighting traffic, no more juggling kids, no more high gas bills. Having this 20 minutes from home, having access to the same doctors we had in Wilmington is such a blessing. The thought that went into this project is exceptional. It is a beautiful place where you can bring your children, it is comfortable, and you know your children are getting the best care.”
