MILFORD — The Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC) is inviting Kent and Sussex County residents to join its Yes2Health program this fall, offering free virtual health education and cooking classes designed to help people live healthier, more active lives.
The 10-week programs, starting in September, focus on nutrition, fitness, and wellness. DBCC leaders say the mission is to give Delawareans tools to make better lifestyle choices and reduce their risk of chronic illnesses, including breast cancer.
Virtual Options Fit Busy Schedules
Yes2Health’s fall health education sessions will be held on Zoom each Tuesday from 5 to 6 p.m., Sept. 15 through Nov. 17. For those juggling busy schedules, a self-guided version will run Sept. 16 through Nov. 18, allowing participants to move at their own pace.
Cooking With a Culinary Expert
A major highlight of the fall lineup is Yes2Health in the Kitchen, an interactive cooking series led by Chef Dee Iraca. Participants receive recipes and shopping lists in advance, then join her live on Zoom to prepare the meal together.
Iraca is the founder of Eat Well Chef, a registered dietitian nutritionist, and a professional chef with over 20 years of experience. Based in North Carolina, she combines clinical nutrition training with real-world culinary expertise. She earned a Culinary Nutrition degree from Johnson & Wales University and completed her dietetic internship at Meredith College.
She has worked in hospitals, restaurants, and teaching kitchens, developing a reputation for making nutrition approachable and flavorful. As a breast cancer survivor herself, she brings a unique perspective to Yes2Health, guiding participants toward meals that are both healthy and enjoyable.
Upcoming classes, all from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m., include:
-
Sept. 16: Ground Chicken Lettuce Wraps
-
Sept. 30: Fish Tacos Sheet Pan Meal
-
Oct. 21: Salmon Teriyaki with Asparagus Over Brown Rice
-
Nov. 4: Pork Tenderloin Green Pozole
-
Nov. 18: Healthier Chicken Pot Pie
Programs for Survivors
Breast cancer survivors can also join the Active Cooking Series Cookbook Club, which provides a free cookbook and monthly gatherings with Iraca. Survivors connect, share, and learn new recipes that emphasize both nutrition and community support.
Spanish-Language Outreach
In partnership with AmeriHealth Caritas Delaware, a Spanish-language Yes2Health session will run Sept. 9–30, every Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at 1142 Pulaski Highway in Bear.
About DBCC
Founded in 1991, the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition is a statewide nonprofit dedicated to raising awareness, providing education, and expanding access to breast cancer screenings and treatment. With offices in New Castle, Kent, and Sussex Counties, DBCC reaches thousands annually through programs like Yes2Health, community health fairs, and its Peer Mentor Program.
The coalition works to overcome barriers of language, culture, and cost so that all Delawareans — regardless of income or insurance — have access to early detection, treatment, and survivorship support.
Community Impact
“These programs are about more than cooking or fitness,” DBCC said in a statement. “They are about building healthier habits, creating support systems, and empowering individuals to take charge of their well-being.”
All Yes2Health sessions are offered free of charge thanks to DBCC and its supporting partners. Registration is now open at debreastcancer.org/programs/yes2health.
