The Delaware Farm Bureau Women’s Committee is encouraging children across Delaware to continue reading during summer break through its “Grow Their Reading Garden” program.
The initiative invites students in Pre-K through eighth grade to read at least 10 books over the summer in exchange for a free scoop of ice cream from the Delaware Farm Bureau Food Booth at the Delaware State Fair.
Participants must complete an official Reading Challenge form and submit it either at the food booth during the fair or to the Delaware Farm Bureau state office by Aug. 1.
The annual program is organized by the DEFB Women’s Committee, which supports youth-focused initiatives and scholarships through proceeds raised at the food booth during the fair.
“We wanted to create something that makes reading exciting and rewarding for kids,” said Mollie Lynch, chair of the DEFB Women’s Committee. “There’s nothing better than finishing a great book and celebrating with a scoop of ice cream at the Fair.”
The Delaware Farm Bureau Food Booth will open July 23 from noon to 11 p.m. and operate daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. from July 24 through Aug. 1 during the fair.
Reading Challenge forms are available through the Delaware Farm Bureau website or at the organization’s state office in Camden.
