GEORGETOWN, Del. — The community is invited to honor the life and service of Chief Master Sergeant William Frederick “Fred” Eason, a decorated U.S. Air Force veteran, family man, and proud Delawarean who passed away on July 23, 2025, at the age of 68.
Visitation will take place on Tuesday, July 29, from 12 to 2 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2 p.m., both at Short Funeral Services, 609 East Market Street in Georgetown.
Eason’s military service spanned an extraordinary 36½ years, during which he rose through the ranks of the United States Air Force Reserve with dedication, skill, and leadership. After enlisting in March 1977, he began his career as a C-5 Aircraft Instrument Technician with the 512th Airlift Wing, based at Dover Air Force Base.
He became known for his technical expertise and calm under pressure, eventually advancing to C-5 Guidance and Control Technician—a role critical to the performance and safety of one of the Air Force’s largest and most strategically important aircraft.
In 2004, Eason achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant, the highest enlisted rank in the Air Force, and assumed leadership as Superintendent of the 512th Component Maintenance Squadron. In this role, he oversaw mission readiness, maintenance protocols, and personnel development for hundreds of airmen.
Throughout his service, he earned numerous honors, including the Air Force Commendation Medal and the Air Force Achievement Medal with four bronze oak leaf clusters, recognizing sustained excellence, leadership, and contributions far beyond the call of duty. Colleagues remember him as a steady hand, a quiet mentor, and a pillar of the Reserve command structure at Dover.
“Fred embodied the best of the U.S. Air Force—he led with integrity, supported his fellow airmen, and never lost sight of the mission or the people behind it,” said one longtime colleague.
After retiring in 2012, Eason remained an active member of the veteran community and enjoyed spending time with his family and on the golf course, a pastime he loved.
He is survived by his wife, Audrey (Anderson) Eason; three children, William Eric Eason (Rachel), Ashley Wallace (Shawn), and Brittany Dye (Brandon); and eight grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Rebecca Eason, and his beloved daughter, Logan.
The family expresses deep gratitude to Delaware Hospice nurse Nicole Parsons Lowe and the entire hospice care team for their compassionate service during Fred’s final days.
Flowers are welcome, and contributions may also be made in Fred’s memory to the Delaware Hospice Center, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
