The Milford Buccaneers football team faced a challenging week following a heavy 50-14 loss to a formidable William Penn squad. This past Friday, they had the opportunity to demonstrate their resilience against a visiting Delcastle team that had pushed them to the limit the previous season.
From the outset, Milford established its readiness to compete. Starting on their own 32-yard line, the Buccaneers launched a decisive drive fueled by an effective running game. Junior quarterback Cayden Jarett efficiently directed the offense, showcasing his ability to distribute the ball among a talented group of running backs. The scoring opened with junior Jamar Austin catching a bubble screen pass and advancing five yards into the end zone. A successful two-point conversion by junior Greg Lockett put Milford ahead 8-0, setting the tone for the rest of the game.
As the contest progressed, it became clear that Milford was on a path to redemption. Coach Jed Bell reflected on the team’s response after a difficult week: “I would be lying if I said everyone was upbeat and confident when we got back to work on Monday. However, as I always say, we put the wins and losses in the rearview mirror. Our job each week is to prepare for the next opponent. You can learn from your last game, but you can’t dwell on it.”
Milford ultimately secured a commanding 54-12 victory, characterized by a collaborative team effort. The Buccaneers executed several impressive plays, including a spectacular 52-yard run by Lockett on the second possession of the game. Other notable contributions came from sophomores Andrew Sivels and Tyjere Perry, who also made significant impacts in both rushing and scoring.
Defensively, Milford showcased strength, with junior Daniel Aladuge emerging as a key player. The defense held firm, and sophomore Jayden Williams contributed with a touchdown after intercepting a pass. Bell praised the team’s performance: “The guys were a little quiet before the game, which made me a bit concerned, but once I saw them on the field, I knew we were in for a big night. I am very proud of how solid we were in all aspects of the game.”
An effective running game relies heavily on a strong offensive line, which performed admirably. Sophomore center Chris Kozlowski shared insights on their performance: “We really got off the ball well tonight. Everyone did their job and held their blocks. We are just beginning to understand how good we can be, and we will build on this.”
Jarett, who transferred this year, demonstrated increased confidence and comfort in the offensive system. He expressed satisfaction with the win: “It was great to get my first home victory here at Milford. We are still getting to know each other as a team, and I believe we can improve further. We understand mistakes will happen, but it’s all about how we respond. We did a lot of things right tonight, but there’s always room for growth.”
Looking ahead, Milford faces an early challenge as they travel to Concord for an 11:30 AM game this Saturday.
