The Milford Public Library Christmas Tree Extravaganza is going on now

December is a great month to visit the Milford Public Library with their annual Christmas Tree Extravaganza, exercise and educational programs for all ages. Executive Director Lea Rosell is watching the race for the best Christmas tree decoration closely.

“We all love a little competition, and many organizations have decorated a tree for the holidays that are displayed at the library,” Rosell said. “Stop in and donate $1 or more to cast a vote for your favorite tree. Proceeds are used to benefit a local family struggling with cancer-related medical expenses.”

In addition to voting for a favorite tree, Rosell stated that each vote earns a raffle entry for gift cards with the winners announced the first week of January. Donations can be sent via check made payable to Milford Public Library to 11 SE Front Street, Milford DE 19963 or credit cards donations can be made at the library during regular hours.

Cardio drumming is a new workout option offered at the library. It is a low impact fitness class that combines drumming, rhythm and music designed to improve balance, coordination and cardiovascular health. This program is every other Wednesday at 6 PM and began December 4. It will run through February 26 although there is no class on January 1, 2025. This program is in partnership with the Milford Bumble Girls.

“On Wednesday, December 11, you can set your creativity free with our vision board party,” Rosell said. “Set your intentions for 2025 with guidance from Transformation Coach Jen Oppenheim. All supplies are provided by registration is required. If you cannot attend, we do ask that you cancel as we will have a waiting list. This is also in partnership with the Milford Bumble Girls.”

On Thursday December 12 at 2 PM, the library will feature “Mrs. Miracle and on Wednesday, December 18 at 2 PM, they will feature “Miracle on 34th Street.” Rosell explained that these two holiday classics are must sees for many families during the holiday. Light refreshments are offered as well, and registration is required.

“Aquacare will offer Balance Talk on Thursday, December 19,” Rosell said. “Alec Crichton, PT, DPT, who is the clinical director at Aquacare, will provide insights on balance, what causes falls and strategies to prevent them. He will also talk about sources of dizziness and what physical therapy techniques can be used to enhance balance.”

The library will offer Santa Pajama Storytime on Thursday, December 12 at 5:30 PM. Children can get cozy with Santa who will read stories while they have cookies, enjoy free books and make some crafts. From December 19 through December 30, children can play a life-sized Candy Land game in the Smith Room.

“Kids can go through centers while moving along a colored path,” Rosell said. “This is a self-guided game, so come ready for some fun and movement.”

Each family may register for a 20 minute time slot by calling 302=422-8996, Ext. 3110 or stop by the Children’s Library to register. There is no fee, and the event is all day except for a break in the middle of the day so staff can have lunch.

“Teens will also find fun events this month at the library,” Rosell said. “On Saturday, December 14, we will offer DIY Yeti plushies to those 12 to 18. No registration is required, and all supplies will be provided while they last. Then, on December 20 at 3 PM, we will offer make your own LED holiday cards with all material provided.
