Even though spring sports started last week the spring weather hasn’t. It was cold and windy with rain over the weekend that washed out all the games.

We saw same top teams face off in No. 2 Conrad who fell to St

Georges who was unranked in the preseason. However they have a good team and I may have missed them when I did the rankings. They have a player of the year candidate in Nate Artibridge (Missouri State) who went 2-3 with 3 RBI’s and a Homerun in their win over Conrad.

No. 3 Cape Henlopen went 3-0 over the week with wins over Middletown, Milford, and Ken Island (MD). Cape scored 40 runs in three games while only allowing 9. They are in midseason form already. No. 7 Sanford also went 3-0 in the first week of play.  They defeated Odessa, Red Lion and Mt Pleasant. They too had the bats working scoring 34 runs over three games and only allowed 12.

Let’s take a look at Week 1’s top ten rankings after some real good season opening games.

No. 1 Delaware Military Seahawks (DMA) the defending state champs were idle this week. They will start the season on Wednesday March 27th against St Elizabeths. They turn right around the next day and play Conrad, a rematch from last year’s state championship.  Then they travel to play Caesar Rodney on Saturday at noon. We will see how DMA handles these three games to remain at No. 1.

No. 2 Cape Henlopen 3 Cape Henlopen went 3-0 over the week with wins over Middletown, Milford, and Ken Island (MD). Cape scored 40 runs in three games while only allowing 9. They have two games this week when they host Caesar Rodney on Tuesday then go on the road to Delmar on Thursday.  Both teams won their games last week, but they will be getting Cape coming off three big wins. Let’s see how the week shakes up for them.

No. 3 The Caravel Buccaneers defeated Odessa by a 9-0 score last week. Their only scheduled game next week is a night game as they host No. 8 Salesianum. This game will be the season opener for the Sals. It’s tough territory for the Sals going to Caravel to play at night. This game will be live on our channel available for your viewing.

No. 4 Sussex Central Golden Knights defeated Smyrna last week 9-3. They have three games lined up this week starting on Tuesday as they travel to Polytech. They then host St Vincent Pallotti (MD) on Thursday and travel to Laurel on Friday with a noon start time. They aren’t going to get much rest from their starters this week so we will see how they handle this tough schedule.

No. 5 Sussex Tech Ravens defeated Polytech 12-2 last week. In that game the Ravens tallied 9 hits.  They will travel to Dover on Tuesday then host Lake Forest on Thursday both teams are 0-1 to start the season.

No. 6 The Sanford Warriors went 3-0 in the first week of play.  They defeated Odessa, Red Lion and Mt Pleasant. They too had the bats working scoring 34 runs over three games and only allowed 12. The Warriors are off this week and will resume play April 2nd as they host St Elizabeth’s.

No. 7 The Saint Mark’s Spartans started off the season with some hot bats. They scored 37 runs in 2 games defeating Germantown Academy (PA) 16-3, and Lake Forest 21-0. They totaled 25 hits in two games to open up the season. The Spartans host St Elizbeth today at 3pm, then will travel to play Newark Charter this Wednesday.

No. 8 The Salesianum Sals were idle last week. They kickoff their season this Tuesday as they travel to No. 3 Caravel to play a night game. This is a tough road game to open the season for the Sals.  This game will be live on our channel available for your viewing.

No. 9 William Penn Colonials were idle last week and will begin their season Tuesday as they host Delcastle at 3:45pm. They then have a tough road game as they travel to No. 10 St George’s who wasn’t ranked last week, but defeated then No. 2 Conard. This is an early season test for the young Colonials.

No. 10 St Georges Hawks were unranked last week, but a big win over then No. 2 Coard has moved them into the top 10.  They have some arms and bats including a player of the year candidate in Nate Artibridge (Missouri State) who went 2-3 with 3 RBI’s and a Homerun in their win over Conrad. They will travel to play Appoquinimink Tuesday at 4pm then host No. 9 William Penn. It’s a tough week for games for the Hawks. Let’s see if they can stay in the top 10.

There are a few very good games to get out there and watch. Let’s hope we can endure the weather which is showing mid 50’s all week and rain on Wednesday and Thursday . However the weekend looks really nice as we see sun and temperatures around 60.
