On August 27 at approximately 2:37 p.m., Milford Police Department was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision with injuries at the intersection of Mastens Circle and N. DuPont Blvd (US Route 113) Southbound. When units arrived on scene, they observed a large dump truck carrying asphalt millings rolled over on top of a Kia Telleride SUV.

Investigation revealed that the dump truck was traveling southbound on N. DuPont Blvd approaching Masten’s Circle when the truck’s brakes malfunctioned, and the operator was not able to control the truck. The Kia, who had the green light, was traveling eastbound on Masten’s Circle headed towards the Milford Plaza Shopping center. As the Kia was in the intersection, the dump truck collided with the Kia. The dump truck attempted to swerve left, which caused the dump truck to overturn and spill its contents all over the roadway.

The operator of the Kia was transported to an area hospital for medical evaluation and was later released. N. DuPont Blvd was closed between Airport Rd and Milford Harrington Hwy for approximately four hours, while the collision was investigated and the roadway was cleared of debris. The operator of the dump truck was cited with numerous traffic violations.

The Milford Police Department would like to thank DNREC, Delaware State Police Commercial Motor Vehicle Unit and the City of Milford Public Works Department for responding to the scene and assisting with various aspects of this collision investigation.
