Milford, Del. — A full-day concealed carry training course will be held this weekend at the Milford Wellness Village, offering essential education and live-fire instruction for both current gun owners and those considering purchasing their first firearm.

Hosted by Complete Defense, a Milford-area self-defense training company, the class runs from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday, July 26–27. The course is designed to meet the requirements for Delaware and Maryland concealed carry permits, and is open to residents from either state.

Whether you already own a handgun or are simply exploring your options, organizers say this class is designed to meet you where you are.

“Concealed carry training isn’t just about learning how to shoot—it’s about how to think, stay safe, and understand the responsibility that comes with owning a firearm,” said co-founder Lori Smith.

Why Concealed Carry Training Matters

Concealed carry instruction goes far beyond the basics of firearm operation. The program—Concealed Carry and Home Defense Fundamentals—includes modules on developing a personal protection plan, situational awareness, legal boundaries of self-defense, and what to do in the aftermath of a violent encounter.

“This training prepares you not only to carry but to do so with the right mindset,” said Patrick Smith, who co-teaches the course alongside his wife. “You’ll gain practical skills and legal knowledge that are critical in today’s world.”

Students will also take part in live-fire exercises under the supervision of certified instructors, building confidence and accuracy in real-world scenarios.

Meet the Instructors: Lori and Patrick Smith

Complete Defense was founded by Lori and Patrick Smith, a USCCA-certified husband-and-wife team known for their clear instruction and supportive teaching style. Their training company, based in Lincoln just outside Milford, has earned praise from first-time students and seasoned gun owners alike.

The Smiths emphasize responsible firearm ownership and community safety. Their classes often attract a wide range of participants—from concerned parents and small business owners to retirees and young professionals seeking a deeper understanding of personal protection.

In addition to CCW classes, Complete Defense also offers workshops on non-lethal defense tools, situational awareness, and hands-on practice with a variety of firearm models.
