Several Delaware students earned achievements at this year’s National BPA Conference.

Delaware students made a powerful impression at the 2025 Business Professionals of America (BPA) National Leadership Conference, held last month in Orlando, Florida.

Competing against nearly 7,000 students from over 800 chapters across the country, Delaware’s delegation brought home a long list of top honors.

In total, students from the First State claimed 12 national championships (first place), 13 second-place awards, and 18 third-place finishes.

An additional 67 students were recognized as Top Ten finalists in their competitive events, which spanned topics like finance, digital communication, entrepreneurship, and IT.

Business Professionals of America, founded in 1966, is a national career and technical student organization that prepares students for careers in business, finance, information technology, and related fields.

Beyond the competitive success, two Delaware students received significant national honors.

Tyler Gunter of MOT Charter School was elected to serve on the 2025–2026 BPA National Executive Council, while Evina Shingavi of Waters Middle School in the Appoquinimink School District was named Middle Level Torch Award Ambassador of the Year.

“Winning the BPA Ambassador of the Year Award is such an honor and something I am truly grateful for,” Shingavi said. “To me, this award means that the time and heart I have put into helping others, working alongside my adviser and fellow officers, and representing Delaware have made a real difference. It reminds me that leadership is not about being in charge but about serving with kindness, lifting others up, and creating a welcoming space for everyone. I am so thankful for every opportunity BPA has given me to grow, give back, and learn from amazing people who have supported and encouraged me every step of the way.”

Both students previously served as members of the 2024–2025 Delaware BPA State Officer Leadership Team and have been recognized for their commitment to leadership and service.

The weeklong conference included not only competitions but also leadership development workshops and community service projects, including efforts supporting the Special Olympics—BPA’s national service partner.

“This award inspires me to keep living by BPA’s values as I work toward my future dream of becoming an entrepreneur who helps my community and motivates young people to follow their dreams,” Shingavi said. “Volunteering with Bracelet Buddies, the Special Olympics, and the senior center has shown me how much joy and purpose come from serving others. Working closely with my adviser and officer team has taught me teamwork and problem-solving — skills I know I will use to build something meaningful in the future.”

The 2026 BPA National Leadership Conference is set to take place in Nashville, Tennessee, from May 6–10.
