Parson Thorne’s Market Faire now has openings for local non-profits

Milford Historical Society has depended on community support for many years as they work to preserve and maintain Silver Hill Mansion, also known as Parson Thorne Mansion. As a way to give back to the community and thanks to a generous donation from Shore United Bank, they are opening up vendor spaces at their upcoming Market Faire, planned for October 12 from 10 AM to 3 PM to Milford non-profits for free.

“We currently have several local artisans and antique dealers who are setting up on the lawn of the mansion,” Ralph Prettyman, President of Milford Historical Society, said. “Since we still have spaces available, we felt one way we could thank our community for the support they have given us over the years is to allow other non-profits to set up tables, sell their fund raising items and get the word out about what they do.”

Space is limited and the historical society and are first-come-first served. An application is required and can be obtained via email. The applications must be received by October 9.

“We can still accept craft vendors as well,” Prettyman said. “The cost for a craft vendor space is $30 and the deadline is also October 9. We will also have Carl’s Gourmet Hot Dogs at the Market Faire.”

The Market Faire is an extension of the historical society’s popular antique market offered twice each year. Tours of the mansion will also be offered at the event. Initially, the cost for admission was $1, but the society has decided to offer free admission, although donations are always welcome. Donation options as well as sponsorship information will be available during the Market Faire. There will also be information provided on how to volunteer for the society.

“We are in the process of planning our new Visitor Center which we hope to have constructed by next fall,” Prettyman said. “This means we are in need of funding not only to maintain and preserve the beautiful mansion and it’s artifacts, but also to complete the visitor center which will have additional exhibit space, a gift shop and meeting areas.”

October 12 will also kick off a monthly opening of the mansion. On the second Saturday of each month, volunteers will be on site to give guided tours of this historic property, or visitors can take a self-guided tour if they prefer. The hours will be 10 AM to 2 PM.
