After the primary election held September 10, it was local elections that were the hottest contests since the nominees for president had already been decided. Races for Senate District 18, Representative District 36, Sussex County Council were what drove most people to the polls in Milford.
Voter turnout was higher than previous year primary elections. In 2022, voter turnout was 16.22 percent. This year, turnout was 22.41 percent. Although all results are unofficial, the Department of Elections declared the following as apparent winners in the race.
For Senate District 18, Republican Dave Wilson received 3,383 votes (75.73 percent) and his challenger, Robert “Bob” Reed received 1,084 (24.27 percent). For House District 36, Republican Bryan Shupe received 1,157 votes (50.26 percent) compared to his opponent Patrick Smith who received 1,145 (49.74 percent).
For Sussex County Council District 2, Steve McCarron received 2,535votes (58.45 percent) and Cynthia Green received 1,802 (41.55 percent).
In the general election, Shupe will face Democrat Rony Baltazar-Lopez. The other local candidates do not have an opponent in the general election.
