The City of Milford announced recently there has been significant progress on their 2024 Streets and Utilities Rehabilitation project, a major initiative designed to enhance the city’s infrastructure. The goal is to improve functionality, efficiency and accessibility by upgrading water mains, water services, sewer lines, ADA accessibility and repaving of streets.
“To date, the city has replaced or verified over 180 water services, ensuring compliance with EPA standards for lead service line remediation while also installing 3,000 linear feet of new water main to increase system capacity and improve water quality,” Lauren Swain, Economic Development and Community Engagement Administrator, said. “There have been 24 ADA ramps updated to enhance sidewalk accessibility that will also improve Milford’s walkability score.”
In addition to those improvements, 800 tons of asphalt have been laid, repaving just under one mile of city streets. North Church Street, Northeast 8th Street, Northwest Second Street, Southeast Third Street, Richard Street, Caulk Road, Northwest 6th Street and West Street have been completed as part of the rehabilitation program.
“The contractor finished transferring water service from the old to the new water main on North Washington Street and that project was completed Friday, November 22,” Swain said. “We anticipate that South Church Street’s sewer main installation to be completed by November 28. Construction on Southeast 4th Street is set to begin in the next week to address deterioration in front of Fortunata’s Bakery>”
Swain explained that construction on North Washington Street, South Washington Street, South Church Street, Maple Avenue and the City Hall parking lot should begin in the next few months. The city hopes to complete those projects with minimal disruption to businesses and residents.
“The city is committed to improving infrastructure and creating a safer, more efficient and accessible environment for all residents,” Swain said. “The city appreciates the patience and cooperation of the public as we continue with this project.”
