This is the fourth and final part of this year’s Holiday Gift finds series. Thank you to everyone who participated and especially thank you to everyone who “shopped local” this year. It matters.
As the lights come down, Shopping Local doesn’t have to end with the holidays. Birthdays, anniversaries, thank-you gifts, celebrations, and “just because” moments are all chances to keep those dollars — and that goodwill — circulating close to home.

MILFORD, Del. — As Milford’s holiday season winds down, one thing is clear: the best gifts this year weren’t measured in shipping deadlines or cardboard boxes. They were measured in shared meals, new skills, local flavors, creative sparks, and moments that brought people together.
Over the past three weeks, Milford LIVE’s Holiday Gift Finds series showcased just how much variety — and heart — exists right here at home. From speakeasy-style dinners and bourbon tastings to gymnastics classes, music lessons, floral arrangements, craft beer, apparel, art, and hometown keepsakes, Milford proved it doesn’t need big malls or next-day delivery to deliver meaningful gifts.

What unites all of these local options is more than convenience. It’s a connection.
When shoppers choose a Milford restaurant, boutique, studio, gym, museum, or maker, they’re not just crossing names off a list. They’re helping a neighbor cover payroll through the winter, keeping storefronts active downtown, supporting local jobs, and sustaining the events, nonprofits, and sponsorships that give Milford its character year-round.
Local business owners say the holiday season often determines how strong the coming year will be. A gift card purchased in December can turn into date nights in February. A class enrollment can spark confidence that lasts a lifetime. A locally made item becomes a story shared every time someone asks, “Where did you get that?”
Just as important, many of this year’s most popular gifts weren’t “things” at all. Experiences — dinners, tastings, lessons, memberships, and activities — stood out as ways to give time, memories, and community. In a season already full of stuff, Milford shoppers leaned into gifts that last.
Ashly and Ryan McCarty are building their dream through showing shoppers how to love house plants.
Taken together, Weeks One, Two, and Three of Holiday Gift Finds paint a clear picture: Milford’s local economy is diverse, creative, and deeply personal. From downtown Walnut Street to nearby side roads and online shops headquartered right here, residents have more options than they might realize — often with better stories and stronger impact than anything found in a national chain.
As the lights come down and calendars flip to the new year, the message from this series is simple: shopping local doesn’t have to end with the holidays. Birthdays, anniversaries, thank-you gifts, celebrations, and “just because” moments are all chances to keep those dollars — and that goodwill — circulating close to home.
