MILFORD — A rapid response and thorough investigation by the Milford Police Department led to the arrest of two suspects following a menacing incident on October 17, reinforcing the department’s ongoing efforts to keep the community safe.

According to police, three victims reported that they were sitting in a vehicle in the 300 block of NW 2nd Street when a suspect exited a nearby SUV, pointed a handgun at one of them, and demanded that they get out of their car. The victims drove away and immediately contacted the police.

Through swift investigative work, officers identified the primary suspect as a 17-year-old male. An arrest warrant was issued, and on October 20, the suspect was taken into custody by the School Resource Officer when he arrived for class at Milford High School. A search of his vehicle uncovered two untraceable handguns and ammunition.

“This case shows how coordination between patrol officers, detectives, and school resource personnel can stop a potentially dangerous situation from escalating,” said Sgt. Timothy Maloney, Milford Police Department’s Public Information Officer.

The 17-year-old was charged with multiple felony counts, including possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, aggravated menacing, conspiracy, and possession of untraceable firearms. He was committed to the Stevenson House Detention Center in default of $69,500 cash bond and faces a bail review hearing in Kent County Family Court.

Police also identified and arrested a second suspect, 19-year-old Ivan Salez of Milford, who was charged with aggravated menacing and conspiracy. He was taken into custody at his residence and committed to the Department of Correction in default of $5,000 cash bond.

Both suspects were issued no-contact orders with the victims and the Milford School District.

Police officials emphasized that the quick identification and arrest of the suspects demonstrate the department’s commitment to maintaining public safety and protecting Milford’s schools.

“This is exactly the type of coordinated law enforcement action that keeps our neighborhoods and schools secure,” Sgt. Maloney added. “Our officers acted decisively, and their diligence ensured that dangerous weapons were removed from our community.”
