Downtown Milford Inc. organizers are leading the effort to recruit volunteers to help keep the Christmas cheer running on schedule for this year’s Annual Holiday Stroll.
MILFORD, Del. — Santa’s got the North Pole covered, but Downtown Milford might need a few extra elves.
The popular event is expected to bring thousands of visitors downtown for festive lights, decorated storefronts, vendors, music and family activities. Truiett describes it as “a Hallmark movie, but with more layers and better parking.”
To pull it off, Downtown Milford is recruiting volunteers for several very merry roles:
Storefront judges (5–7 p.m.)
Think “Milford’s Got Talent,” but for window displays. Volunteers will stroll through downtown to judge holiday-decorated storefronts using a provided rubric. Tinsel, creativity and Christmas spirit will all be on the line as local businesses compete for bragging rights.Vendor support (1–3 p.m.)
Before the official start, volunteers will help guide vendors to their assigned spots, answer quick questions and make sure no one mistakes Santa’s sleigh for a food truck. These volunteers are the friendly first faces sellers meet when they roll into town.Downtown Milford table (3–5 p.m. and 5–8 p.m.)
Volunteers at the Downtown Milford table will act as the “North Pole Information Desk” — helping with purchases, answering questions and collecting raffle tickets. If someone wants to know where the action is, these are the folks who point them in the right direction.Event support/floaters (3–8 p.m. and 5–8 p.m.)
These volunteers are the utility players of the night, moving between activity stations to help where needed. One minute they might be helping at a kids’ activity, the next they could be pointing a family toward hot cocoa. Flexibility — and a sense of humor — is encouraged.
Sade’ Truiett, Coordinator with Downtown Milford Inc. said the Holiday Stroll is one of Milford’s most beloved traditions, giving residents a chance to shop local, see neighbors, and soak in the Christmas atmosphere, complete with lights, music and plenty of photo opportunities.
Volunteers, she added, won’t just get warm fuzzies from doing good. All who sign up will receive:
A Holiday Stroll volunteer T-shirt
A volunteer tumbler

In other words, Santa isn’t the only one getting cookies and treats this season.
Those interested in volunteering are asked to sign up by Nov. 30 by replying to the event email or calling the Downtown Milford office at (302) 393-6808.
“Downtown Milford always shines at the holidays,” Truiett said. “We just need a few extra hands to keep the magic going.”
