Senate Republican Leader Gerald Hocker (R–Ocean View) issued a statement Thursday, March 12, 2026, expressing concern over the prolonged closure of the Ocean View Post Office and the lack of a timeline for repairs.

“For months now, residents and businesses in the Ocean View area have been without access to their local post office while the facility remains closed for repairs. Unfortunately, despite repeated inquiries, the United States Postal Service has failed to provide a timeline for when repairs will begin or when the post office will reopen,” Hocker said.

He acknowledged that the USPS has stated the project is active and is evaluating potential interim solutions but criticized the agency for failing to provide concrete answers. “Frankly, the amount of time it has taken to reach even the early stages of a solution is disgraceful. Residents deserve far better communication and a much greater sense of urgency in resolving this matter,” he said.

Hocker noted that he and Representative Gray have been in regular contact with USPS and are coordinating with federal partners to move the process forward. “Our constituents are looking for real progress, not continued uncertainty. I am once again urging USPS to provide a clear timeline for both interim service options and the eventual reopening of the Ocean View facility,” he said.

“My office stands ready to continue working collaboratively with USPS and federal officials, but the residents of Ocean View and the surrounding area deserve prompt action so they can regain access to the postal services they rely on every day,” Hocker added.

Residents of Ocean View have been without local postal services for several months, relying instead on nearby facilities for mail and package needs.

This story will be updated as new information from the USPS becomes available.
