Milford soccer had a successful season last year, finishing with an impressive 11-4 regular season record before falling to eventual State Champion Salesianum in the first round of the State Tournament. Despite losing six seniors to graduation, Head Coach Prince Kemmerlin remains optimistic about his team’s prospects. “I have coached most of these players since middle school, so I know what they are capable of. This is a very talented squad that is very eager to learn and play—you can’t ask for more than that,” Kemmerlin said.

Milford’s success this season will start at the back with senior goalkeeper Fernando Flores. Entering his final season, Flores has excelled in practices and is a complete player in all aspects of the game, including leadership. “Fernando has a really solid understanding of the game and the ability to see the whole field. He makes sure players are where they are supposed to be and helps ensure everyone is doing their job. He is everything you want in a goalkeeper,” Kemmerlin praised.

Key to Flores’ effectiveness is the improved back line, which should reduce the number of saves he needs to make. Leading the defense is All-Conference defender Dominic Schneck. “He is a born leader with a great attitude. He always seems to make the big play when you need it and has stepped up his game this season,” said Kemmerlin.

On offense, Milford will once again rely on senior striker Manny Joseph. Skilled both on and off the ball, Joseph is expected to continue his growth as a key player. “He is just one of three players we have up front who is capable of scoring at any moment. We love to stay on the front foot as much as we can and keep the pressure on. That is what I love about this group—they just keep on coming at the opposition,” Kemmerlin said.

In the midfield, David Carillo will play a crucial role as the team’s playmaker. Known for his skillful distribution and composure, Carillo serves as both the midfield captain and the overall team captain. “He is a magician in the middle. He truly makes everyone around him better. He has a commanding presence and draws a lot of attention, which frees the guys up front to be creative,” Kemmerlin noted.

Alongside Joseph, sophomores Freely Napoleon and Ricky Ramirez will form a formidable attacking trio. “The three of them are so solid; they can take on defenders one-on-one while also looking to create scoring opportunities for their teammates,” Kemmerlin explained.

The goal for this season is to improve, and with what he has seen so far, Kemmerlin believes he has the group to do it. “We have worked on developing our possession game, which should help us control the pace and flow of the game better. I am very excited about this group and what is to come this season,” he said.

Milford opens the season at Delmarva Christian High School this Tuesday, September 3rd, at 4:15 PM.
