Milford’s Riverwalk is becoming a tourist attraction and could businesses could benefit from the Southern Delaware Tourism Ambassador Program

With tourism growing in the Milford area, there is a need to draw tourists to areas like the Riverwalk, Goat Island and other attractions in the city. Many partners and their front line employees have completed the Southern Delaware Tourism Ambassador training that can help promote the area as a place for tourists.

“There is no question that tourism is vital to Sussex County,” Communications Manager for Southern Delaware Tourism said. “This program provides information about why the industry is critical. Ambassadors learn what our organization does and how to find the resources available to assist visitors, guests and customers.”

There is also information provided about the Vistor Guide and Fun Facts alogn with other experiences that even some residents of Delaware may not be familiar with.

“One of those is the SDT SouthDel Sidekick app that can be used to find tourism information on the and can generate suggestions to share with visitors, guests, and customers,” Coleman said. “There are also rewards programs available for ambassadors.”

The goal is to ensure that visitors to the area feel warmly welcomed by local businesses while also confirming that visitor questions. are fully answered.

“We want those visiting to receive knowledgeable referrals for activities, restaurants, entertainment, tours, and adventures, and that they feel inspired to explore and return,” Coleman said. “SDT is still seeking businesses interested in providing discounted or free experiences to Tourism Ambassadors so they can share authentic, first-hand knowledge of the attractions, sites, experiences, and activities available here when they are assisting visitors.”

Coleman explained that the benefits to businesses of supporting this program by having their employees take the course and/or by providing rewards are two-fold. Employers whose staff take the course will ensure their guests and visitors will receive even better customer service. Helpful, knowledgeable employees make visits to specific businesses memorable and likely to be repeated.

“Businesses providing rewards will receive referrals from Tourism Ambassadors based on personal experience; the most valuable type of referral,” Coleman stated.

Any business who would like to participate by providing ambassador rewards, contact Southern Delaware Tourism at 302-856-1818 or via email at [email protected]. The link for front line managers, employees, and interested community members to enroll in the course is https://southdeltap.visitsoutherndelaware.com/.
