MILFORD – Delaware State Police are investigating a knife-point robbery that occurred Friday night at a busy convenience store on Bay Road, and detectives are asking the public for help in identifying the suspect.

Troopers were dispatched to the Valero Shore Stop, located at 1885 Bay Road, around 8 p.m. on Sept. 19 after receiving a 911 call reporting a robbery in progress. According to a preliminary investigation, an unidentified man entered the store, pulled a knife and ordered the clerk to open the cash registers. Police said the suspect demanded money while brandishing the weapon in a threatening manner.

The man fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash and several cigars. No one inside the store was injured, but investigators say the incident left employees and customers shaken. Authorities have not released surveillance images, but describe the suspect as a Black male wearing dark clothing. He was last seen leaving the area on foot, though troopers are working to determine whether a getaway vehicle was nearby.

The robbery happened along a busy stretch of Bay Road (Del. 1) that connects Milford to Dover and serves as a key route for travelers heading to the beaches. Police are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and traffic cameras to track the suspect’s movements before and after the crime.

The Troop 3 Criminal Investigations Unit continues to lead the investigation. Anyone who witnessed the robbery, was in the area around the time of the incident, or has information that could help identify the suspect is urged to contact Detective J. Sydnor at (302) 698-8540. Tips may also be provided by sending a private Facebook message to the Delaware State Police or by contacting Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-847-3333. Callers can remain anonymous.

Police remind residents and business owners to stay alert and to report any suspicious activity immediately.
