Jeff Hilovsky announced Thursday that he will not seek reelection to the Delaware House of Representatives this fall, ending his time in office after two terms representing the state’s 4th District.
Hilovsky, a Republican representing the Long Neck and Oak Orchard areas, said his decision was primarily driven by a desire to spend more time with his family.
The 4th District, which was relocated to Sussex County following redistricting in 2022, covers a fast-growing region between Georgetown and Rehoboth Beach.
Before entering public office, Hilovsky worked as an optometrist and co-founded Sussex Eye Center. His professional background also includes serving as medical director and network administrator for Vision Source and founding Leadership is a Lifestyle.
A retired colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, Hilovsky served for 24 years before retiring in 2007. During his time in the General Assembly, he supported legislation related to veterans services, including measures targeting fraudulent “claim shark” operations and proposals aimed at expanding access to resources for veterans.
Hilovsky was also known for advocating financial literacy education. Legislation he sponsored last year requires Delaware public school students entering ninth grade to complete a half-credit financial literacy course as part of graduation requirements.
Another measure currently pending in the House, House Bill 305, proposes a three-year pilot program focused on reducing Type 2 diabetes through patient monitoring and healthcare incentives.
Despite his decision not to seek another term, Hilovsky said he plans to continue serving constituents through the remainder of his current term.
“It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your Representative. Every day I walk up those steps and open the door to enter Legislative Hall, I am humbled to serve and work to bring value every day to the citizens of the 4th District and Delaware.
“While I have no plans to slow down, I relish the opportunity to travel with my wife of nearly 46 years, Marcia, and we will spend more time with our grandchildren, watching them grow while actively participating in their lives. This has been an opportunity of a lifetime; I am enriched by the better understanding of the inner workings of government and glad to have met so many wonderful people. I am truly Blessed and thank you for trusting me to serve you.”
