The Sussex Conservation District has announced the appointment of Tyler L. Brown as its new district coordinator.
Brown brings more than 13 years of experience in conservation program leadership, natural resource management and interagency coordination throughout Delaware.
“Tyler’s deep roots in Sussex County agriculture, combined with his extensive experience directing statewide conservation programs, make him the ideal leader for the District,” said a representative of the Sussex Conservation District Board of Supervisors. “His understanding of both the on-the-ground realities our farmers face and the policy landscape in Dover will be a tremendous asset.”
Brown most recently served with the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control, commonly known as DNREC, as conservation programs section administrator within the Division of Watershed Stewardship. In that role, he oversaw statewide conservation programs with annual budgets totaling up to $20 million, including sediment and stormwater, Chesapeake Bay, tax ditch and debris pit remediation initiatives.
He also served as DNREC’s agricultural liaison and worked closely with Delaware’s three conservation districts, while representing the department on the Delaware Nutrient Management Commission.
Brown previously worked for the Sussex Conservation District beginning in 2011 as a conservation planner, developing Comprehensive Nutrient Management Plans for Sussex County farms and assisting agricultural operations with USDA-NRCS cost-share programs.
“Returning to Sussex Conservation District is both a professional honor and a personal milestone,” said Brown. “This is where my conservation career began, and I’m excited to bring everything I’ve learned at the state level back to the District to strengthen the programs and partnerships that serve our farmers, landowners, and natural resources.”
During his time at DNREC, Brown also served in several environmental science and management positions, including overseeing regulatory coordination with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and managing the agency’s statewide drainage program. He also served as acting division director, providing oversight of division operations and strategic initiatives.
Brown holds a bachelor’s degree in general agriculture from Delaware State University and an associate degree in horticulture and landscape design from Delaware Technical Community College. He is also a Delaware Certified Nutrient Management Consultant and Certified Construction Reviewer.
