On October 4, 2023, at approximately 5:00 a.m., troopers were called for a carjacking that occurred at the Dunkin’ located at 301 North Maryland Avenue, Wilmington, Delaware. The 50-year-old male victim, from New Castle, Delaware, was leaving the Dunkin’ when he was approached by two subjects. The victim recognized the subjects from seeing them earlier, while sitting in his car, in The Reserve at Mill Creek Apartments complex parking lot. The 16-year-old suspect from Claymont, Delaware, displayed a black handgun causing the victim to immediately hand over the keys to his vehicle in fear for his life. The victim was not injured. Both suspects fled southbound on Maryland Avenue towards the City of Newport in the victim’s 2019 Chevrolet Malibu. The vehicle was recovered a short time later, within the walking distance of the Dunkin’.

Through investigative methods, detectives were able to obtain clothing descriptions of the two suspects. At approximately 2:41 p.m., while detectives were at The Reserve at Mill Creek Apartments, they saw four black males wearing ski masks walking through the parking lot. One of the males was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, matching the sweatshirt worn by a suspect during the carjacking at the Dunkin’.

At approximately 2:58 p.m., a separate carjacking occurred within the New Castle County Police Department’s jurisdiction, in the area of 1115 Coyne Place, Wilmington, Delaware. The suspects matched the descriptions of the subjects the Delaware State Police detectives saw a few minutes earlier.
