Here’s hoping the recent frigid weather didn’t adversely impact your home. Here is some winterization advice from the city on minimizing future risk as temperatures tick up a bit.

1. Seal Gaps & Cracks: Check around windows and doors for drafts, and seal any gaps to keep warmth inside.

2. Insulate Pipes: Protect exposed pipes from freezing, especially in unheated areas like basements and attics.

3. Turn Off Water to Outdoor Spigots: Shut off the water supply to outdoor faucets and drain them to prevent freezing and leaks.

4. Bring in Hoses: Store garden hoses indoors to prevent cracking and damage from the cold.

5. Check Your Heater: Have your heating system serviced to ensure it’s ready to withstand cold temperatures.

6. Use Efficiency Smart: Efficiency Smart helps residents and businesses reduce their energy use and save money. Follow this link for more details. https://www.efficiencysmart.org/milford-delaware

When the snow hits…

Shoveling

Driveway Snow Removal: To reduce the amount of snow that might block your driveway, shovel an open area along the shoulder at the entrance. Plow blades will then push snow into the area just before your driveway, leaving a much smaller amount in front of it.

Street Parking: Cars parked on the street hinder proper plowing. Please park in available City lots downtown to help ensure streets are clear and plowed efficiently.

No Parking on Certain Roads: Some DelDOT-maintained roads have a No Parking rule after 1 inch of snow accumulation.

Be Smart: Bundle up, and listen to your spouse when he/she tells you to take it easy and take a breather. See if a neighborhood like would like to earn some money and help you…or do it themselves.
