SBDC to hold workshops for small businesses

Delaware’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) is gearing up for Small Business Saturday, planned for November 30. However, SBDC points out that although small businesses are celebrated that day, it is not just a one-day celebration.

“It embodies the spirit of community, collaboration and support that we should carry with us throughout the month and beyond,” Mike Bowman, Director of SBDC said. “This season, let’s uplift one another by shopping local, sharing resources and championing the unique offerings that each of us brings to the table. Together, we can create a thriving local economy that benefits everyone.”

On November 20, SBDC will hold a webinar on “How to Start a Business.” This webinar is designed to kickstart entrepreneurial efforts and will include topics like business licenses, insurance, funding options and creating a business plan. There is no cost for the workshop.

SBDC will offer “Shape Up:  Master Workflows and Reporting,” the third in their QuickBooks series, on November 12 from 11 AM to 12:15 PM. This webinar is designed to enhance financial management skills and facilitated by Taylor Cervellino. Attendees will learn how to master specific QuickBooks functions, automate workflows and generating in-depth reports. This webinar is free to attend.

“Business Growth Workshop:  How to Pitch to Investors,” is available November 13 from 9 AM to 12 Noon at the Emerging Enterprise Center on Justison Street in Wilmington. This in-person event is in partnership with New Castle County Chamber of Commerce where attendees will learn to build a pitch deck, tailor the presentation to different audiences and clearly communicate the mission of their new business. The webinar is free.

On November 20 from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM, SBDC will offer “Setting up QuickBooks for Small Businesses.” This interactive workshop will also be held at the Emerging Enterprises Center and allows attendees to explore accounting principles, set up their own QuickBooks account and navigate the essential features that will help them manage company finances. Bring a laptop and set up the program at the session. The workshop is free but registration is required and space limited.

The New Castle County Chamber of Commerce will host the Women’s Leadership Conference on November 21 to foster connections among women across generations. There are over 600 attendees expected with the mission of empowering women with engaging workshops and networking opportunities.

Some of the sessions planned for the conference include “Our County, Our State, HER Vision” and “HER Power:  Breaking Free from the Likability Trap.” The keynote address, titled “HERstory in the Making” will provide inspiration to all who attend. An awards luncheon is planned to celebrate the contributions of women in business. Tickets can be purchased through New Castle County Chamber of Commerce.
