Central Delaware Economic Summit planned for September 17

The Central Delaware Economic Summit will focus on recreational marijuana and its impact on businesses

The Central Delaware Economic Summit, designed to promote economic progress in the area, is planned for September 17 from 8 AM until Noon at the Del-Tech Terry Campus. One of the topics to be discussed at this year’s summit is the new recreational marijuana law and how it may impact local businesses.

The event begins with a continental breakfast before welcome remarks by Dr. Paul T. Morris, Jr., vice President and Campus Director, at Del-Tech. Opening remarks by Dr. Mark Brainard, President of Del-Tech will follow.

The keynote speaker is Commissioner Robert Coupe, Delaware Office of the Marijuana Commissioner. Coupe, a former Delaware State Police Superintendent, was appointed in June 2023 to head the state’s recreational marijuana program. After retiring from the state police, he was named commissioner of the Department of Elections and then as Secretary of the Department of Safety and Homeland Security. He stepped down from that position to serve as Attorney General Kathy Jennings chief of staff before coming the chief of staff in the Department of Technology and Information.

After a networking session, there will be a panel discussion, moderated by Paul Hyland, Deputy Commissioner of the Office of the Marijuana Commissioner. The panel will feature Molly DiBianca, Member in Charge, Clark Hill Law Firm; Representative Edward Osienski, 24th District; Jennifer Stark, Co-Founder, The Farm; Stephen Wright, Vice-President of Commercial Lending, Shore United Bank and Dr. Chris Moody, Associate Vice-President for Workforce Development and Community Education, Del-Tech.
