More than 5,000 people filled Dewey Beach on October 4 for the 14th annual Dewey Goes Pink 5K, an event hosted by The Starboard that has become one of the area’s largest breast-cancer awareness fundraisers. This year’s run and walk brought in $380,276 to support programs offered by the Delaware Breast Cancer Coalition (DBCC).
Participants gathered early on what turned out to be a hot October morning, many dressed in pink to honor survivors, remember loved ones, and support local breast cancer outreach. Kristen of Kristen & The Noise opened the program with the National Anthem before runners and walkers took to the course.
Teams were recognized throughout the event, including the Fenwick Fighters, who received a stage presentation for raising the most money. DBCC leaders and state and local partners joined The Starboard’s Steve “Monty” Montgomery in presenting awards and thanking participants.

DBCC CEO Francesca Vogel said the turnout demonstrated the community’s commitment to supporting breast-cancer survivors and access to care. “The energy was simply electric, and it filled me with a sense of great humanity,” she said, noting that seeing thousands of people “running, walking, honoring a loved one, celebrating life, and standing together in solidarity” underscored the impact of the long-running event.
She added that Dewey Goes Pink has been a “loyal supporter” of DBCC’s mission for 14 years and thanked The Starboard Foundation, sponsors, volunteers, and residents who helped make the race possible.
The fundraiser benefits statewide programs that support early detection, education, and survivorship services, including outreach to under-resourced communities in Kent and Sussex counties.
Organizers have already set the date for next year’s event: Saturday, October 3, 2026. More information is available at deweygoespink.com.
