Interfaith Community Housing of Delaware will hold a ceremonial groundbreaking on Friday, May 29, for Lafayette Place, a planned affordable homeownership development in Milford.

The project, located adjacent to the Colony South and Colony West communities near Route 1, is supported by a recently awarded $2.5 million HUD Congressional Directed Spending grant intended to help offset predevelopment and infrastructure costs tied to the project.

According to organizers, Lafayette Place is expected to include between 36 and 95 affordable homeownership units as the development moves forward.

Officials say the project addresses ongoing housing demand in Kent County, where affordable housing inventory has remained limited for many working-class families.

Several federal, state, and local officials are expected to attend the ceremony, including Chris Coons, Lisa Blunt Rochester, Marietta Rodriguez, Charles Anderson, Todd Culotta, and Darlene Sample.

The groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. at the Colony South/West Complex, located at 250 Williamsburg Drive in Milford. Media check-in will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Organizers said the event site will be located along the property line separating the existing development from the planned expansion area.
