After the departure of Sara Bluhm who served as the Economic Development and Community Engagement Director for the City of Milford, there was talk during budget hearings about eliminating the position. Several council members felt that was not the right decision and funds were found in the budget to cover the cost of the director. Recently, Lauren Swain accepted the position.

“I grew up in Milford and knew that with my background I was the perfect fit for this role,” Swain said when asked why she applied. “I was looking to make an impact in our community and with this opportunity, I will do just that.”

Born and raised in Milford, Swain lives in the city with her husband, daughter and two dogs. She graduated from Milford High School and holds a bachelor’s in business management and a Master of Business Administration from Wilmington University. Swain has specific goals she hopes to achieve.

“I want to continue to assist with the growth of Milford’s vibrant downtown, bring economic development to the new Milford Corporate Center, engage our community and tell Milford’s story,” Swain said. “Milford has so much to offer and I’m excited to be part of its success.”

One of the issues Swain faces is getting accurate communication to the public.

“The city gets the brunt of things that are not always true because of miscommunication,” Swain said. “I am able to be proactive and get the message out to the community to avoid those situations. This position was vacant for nine months, so to have someone being able to tell the story of the city again is very important.”

In her spare time, Swain enjoys shopping locally, exploring new places and spending time with family. In this new position, she is looking forward to growing her hometown.

“I am most looking forward to aiding our businesses, residents and visitors in making Milford the best place to work, live and play,” Swain said.

Swain can be reached by phone at 302-725-2068 or by email at [email protected].
