Last month, Milford City Council was presented with a draft ordinance that would ban all marijuana retail outlets in the city except medical compassion centers and grow facilities. This month, a second draft was presented that would permit retail marijuana facilities with restrictions.
“The ordinance would allow marijuana retail stores in the C-3 zoning district by conditional use approval from City Council with the condition that the building footprint upon which the marijuana retail store is located would be at least 500 feet away from any private or public K-12 school, residentially zoned property and any property zoned C-2 (Central Business District),” the ordinance read.
Based on the ordinance and a map provided by City Planner Rob Pierce, marijuana retail establishments could be located on sections of Rehoboth Boulevard, Dupont Highway, and Coastal Highway. A large portion of downtown Milford would not be zoned to allow the facilities as they are too close to schools and churches.
The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, December 17 at 6 PM to discuss both ordinances that have been drafted. City Council will hold a public hearing on January 13 with plans to adopt one of the ordinances at that time.
