LEWES — The Southern Delaware Chorale will mark its 40th anniversary this year with a series of concerts featuring Handel’s ‘Messiah’, performed in collaboration with the Southern Delaware Orchestra (SODELO). This marks the first time the two ensembles will appear together on stage.
The performance of ‘Messiah’ carries historical significance for the Chorale, which launched its first season with the oratorio four decades ago. This year’s concerts will serve both as a celebration of the group’s founding and as a new chapter in regional musical collaboration, with SODELO—a more recent addition to the area’s arts scene—providing orchestral accompaniment.
The concerts will feature the full ‘Messiah’ oratorio, known for its iconic “Hallelujah” chorus and rich blend of choral and orchestral writing. The performance will highlight the depth of musical talent across Sussex County and the power of partnership in the arts.

The groups are currently in rehearsal for what will be a major event in the local holiday music calendar. No performance dates or venue details have been released as of publication, but organizers say tickets are on sale and selling quickly.
The concert is one of several cultural events planned across Southern Delaware during the fall and winter season, reflecting growing interest and participation in the local arts community.
