ELLENDALE, Del. (Aug. 28, 2025) — A concealed carry training course this weekend in Ellendale is nearly full, with only a few seats left for participants looking to qualify for both Delaware and Maryland permits.
The two-day class, taught by instructor Patrick Smith at the Ellendale Fire Department, runs Saturday and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. The $210 course includes 13 hours of classroom instruction and three hours of live fire training. First responders and their immediate families are eligible for a 30% discount.
Instructors will cover the essentials: how to load and unload, grip and stance techniques, sight alignment, trigger control, and the universal safety rules that govern firearm use. Time will also be spent on secure storage options, understanding ammunition, and how to practice safely at a range.
“We see a lot of people who are brand new to handguns, and their first priority is safety,” the lead instructor said. “This class is all about building comfort and good habits from the very beginning.”
The training includes both classroom discussion and controlled live-fire practice under instructor supervision. All equipment will be provided, and no prior experience is required.
Organizers emphasize that the course is not just about marksmanship but about giving students the tools to handle firearms responsibly and confidently in real-world situations.
“If you’re curious, if you’ve just bought your first firearm, or if you simply want to know how to be safe around them, this is the place to start,” the instructor said.
Smith said the program is designed to help participants feel confident and prepared to act as their family’s first line of defense in the event of a critical incident. The training is part of the U.S. Concealed Carry Association’s national program, which has been completed by more than 1 million students across the country.
With only a handful of spots remaining, interested participants are encouraged to register quickly. Details are available by contacting Patrick Smith through the event registration site.
