The store’s new home on NE Front Street is designed to connect shoppers with healthier food, local farms and a broader vision for community wellness.
MILFORD, DE: The Farmacy Market will be celebrating its grand opening at its new location at 301 NE Front St this Saturday. After originally being located in downtown Milford, the market is relocating with its eyes set on expansion in the name of public health.
The local market will be celebrating its grand opening this Saturday, June 17 in its new location. The Farmacy Market, which is owned and operated by the trio Sherry Shupe, Chantel Helmick & Patrick Helmick, relocated for a variety of reasons such as improved access to parking and more room to offer amenities such as the “food forest.”
The new location also allows for shopping carts, expanded product displays and future amenities that were more difficult to offer in the smaller downtown space.

The “food forest” is set to provide free healthy food to the community once fully matured and will also help support pollinators and cleaner water in the area. The underlying goal of The Farmacy Market is to provide healthier diet alternatives to the community.
A stronger retail outlet for fresh food can help farmers, seafood suppliers, bakers, dairy producers, specialty food makers and other small businesses reach more customers. “The mission of the Farmacy is to change the health of the community.” says co-owner Patrick Helmick when considering the mission statement of the business. That mission is reflected in the store’s name and its guiding idea of “Food is Medicine.”

The store is a part of a broader economic-development idea: to create jobs not just in the Farmacy, but all around the Milford area that boost local farmers, suppliers, and workers.
With NE Front St. being a main road to access the downtown area, the business hopes to increase visibility to drivers, pedestrians and those using the area’s newly built walking path.
For Milford, the Farmacy Market expansion adds another locally owned business to a growing corridor near downtown and strengthens the city’s identity as a place where small businesses, agriculture, wellness and community life overlap.
“One tree at a time, changing the health of people, one bite at a time” states Mr. Helmick. The Farmacy Market’s grand opening will begin at 10 a.m on Saturday. The general public is welcome to attend.
