The Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal collision that occurred last night on Interstate 495 that left one man dead.
On May 10, 2023, at approximately 10:44 p.m., a blue 2003 Toyota Solera was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes on I-495 south of Philadelphia Pike. The Solera sideswiped three vehicles in the southbound lanes before it lost both of its front tires. The Solera then crossed over into northbound I-495 at the Holly Oak Road crossover and began traveling northbound at a slow rate of speed on two damaged front rims. A black 2017 Kia Forte that was traveling northbound on I-495 then struck the rear of the Solera.
The driver of the Solera, a 30-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was not wearing his seatbelt. He sustained critical injuries and was later pronounced dead at an area hospital. The name of the victim is being withheld until his family and relatives are notified. The driver of the Forte, a 36-year-old man from Wilmington, Delaware, was taken to an area hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Interstate 495 was closed for approximately 4.5 hours while the scene was investigated and cleared.
