Delaware State Police have arrested 36-year-old Carl Wright of Wilmington, DE on drug and weapon charges following a traffic stop that occurred last night in the Wilmington area.
On March 4, 2023, at approximately 8:51 p.m., a trooper on patrol observed a brown Honda Pilot traveling at a high rate of speed and failed to signal a lane change while traveling southbound on Interstate 95 in the area of Marsh Road in Wilmington. A traffic stop was initiated, and contact was made with the operator, identified as Carl Wright, and two other occupants. Immediately upon contact, the trooper smelled an odor of marijuana from inside the vehicle. Subsequently, a probable cause search was conducted, and the trooper discovered a loaded Hi-Point 9mm handgun and approximately 79.1 grams of marijuana.
Wright was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 1 where he was charged with the following crimes:
- Carrying a Concealed Deadly Weapon (Felony)
- Possession of a Deadly Weapon by a Person Prohibited (Felony)
- Possession of Marijuana (Civil)
- Speeding
- Failure to Signal Properly
Wright was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court # 11 and released on a $7,800 unsecured bond.
