Delaware State Police have arrested 18-year-old Sherron Elam-Coursey of Wilmington, DE, and two teens, a 13-year-old female from Magnolia, DE, and a 15-year-old female from Milford, DE, in connection with theft of a motor vehicle after an incident early Thursday morning.

On January 19, 2023, at approximately 1:44 a.m., troopers responded to the Wawa located at 4651 Ogletown Stanton Road, Wilmington, for a motor vehicle theft. Troopers learned that a 21-year-old female parked her black 2017 Chevrolet Malibu in front of the store and went inside to make a purchase while leaving the vehicle unsecured and running. Upon returning to her vehicle, it was missing from the parking lot. Further investigation determined the two juvenile suspects stole the vehicle from the Wawa parking lot and fled.

Through investigative means, troopers located the stolen vehicle unoccupied in the area of northbound Interstate 95 and Frawley stadium. Additionally, troopers located three suspects hiding in the marsh near the location of the stolen vehicle.

The three suspects were taken into custody without incident and transported back to Troop 2 where they were each charged with the following crimes:

15-year-old and 13-year-old juveniles

  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle (Felony)
  • Conspiracy Second Degree (Felony)

They were each arraigned in the New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on a $5,000 secured bond.
